Janette Stiles - Biography
|My painting, "Arbury Mill", was inspired by George Elliot's novel, "The Mill on the Floss". Arbury Mill is thought to be the locale on which she based her book. If you can find it, there is a duck in the rushes at the bottom left corner of the painting.
"View of Mt. Washington from Lake Cushman" features a breathtaking view of the Olympic Mountain range in Washington State where I live. That's our dog Rollie looking out over the water.
The "Skokomish River Valley" is a beautiful area in Western Washington from which I have done several landscape paintings. The river is the lifeblood of the valley, providing salmon and trout; water for farms and crops. However it has also taken as much as it has given--flooding the valley and wiping out homes and damaging the land.
